- Understands and utilizes knowledge of the hospital’s philosophy and objectives in directing activities of the staff.
- Collaborates with administrative staff on special projects and other assignments.
- Is responsible for the effective and efficient functioning of the pre-admission staff.
- Acts as resource to clinical nurses for problem identification and problem resolution in regard to staff job functions.
- Determines the need for and makes recommendations concerning new or revised policies and procedures.
- Ensures that existing policies and procedures are understood and implemented by staff.
- Participates in continuing quality improvement activities, initiates and tabulates results, reports to Quality Nurse on a quarterly basis.
- Is responsible for the maintenance of standards of practice in the inpatient nursing environment.
- Responsible for staffing, approving time off requests and approval of employee time for payroll.
- Responsible for annual evaluations of staff.
- Responsible for developing the roles and responsibilities of the shift staff.
- Maintains current staff licensure, continuing education requirements, competencies, etc.
- Provides guidance, counseling and advice to staff.
- Communicates effectively with administrative and clinic staff to ensure that all necessary information is disseminated.
- Acts as liaison to clinical/hospital staff.
- Acts as a contact person for Anesthesia related to patient’s clearances needed for surgery, scheduling airway evaluation appointments.
- Holds and facilitates regular staff meetings, records meetings.
- Coordinates lab duties/tasks.
- Utilizes previous clinical experience and knowledge to assess the needs of the surgical patient as required.
- Assembles patient charts, takes medical histories, collects /prepares lab specimens and performs 12 lead EKG.
- Organization and time management without direct order.
- Assists in evaluation of new policies, procedures, instrumentation, equipment and supplies.
- Knowledge of team building and dynamics
- Approves all time off requests and is responsible for departmental employee payroll
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Current state RN licensure
- Three (3) years PAT experience preferred.
- Experience in a fast paced environment; orthopedic and spine experience strongly recommended.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience.
License, Certificate or Registration:
- Current Louisiana RN State Licensure or Multi-State Licensure
- BLS Required
- ACLS Preferred
- Seven paid holidays
